Two Grand Openings, all in one weekend in 1995
mmmmm
September 15th 1995 saw the Grand Opening of the Myra Canyon Linear Park on the left. This was a totally volunteer effort, mostly by citizens of Kelowna. Next to the Adair Loop hike in Idaho on the old Milwaukee Road RofW, this has to be one of the very best and scenic hikes of its kind, what with 18 bridges or trestles and 2 tunnels along the way. These of course burned down during the wild fires of 2003 and have bee rebuilt, closely resembling their original appearance.
The following day, September 16th 1995 saw the grand opening of the Kettle Valley Steam Railway, operating with a two-truck logging Shay and 2 coaches. Since that day a number of open-air car have been added over the last two years and the operating season extends between the long weekend in May and Labour Day weekend. It is now operated by CPR 3716 in abosolutely gorgeous condition.
